Day 10: Man's Search for Meaning...

Following on yesterday's post about the joy of books, I couldn't resist from sharing about one of the books that I believe encompass the true essence of hope. (Read here if you missed yesterday's post). "Man's search for meaning" is a book that I came across in my MBA year as one of our prescribed reading material for our Leadership course. This "classic tribute to hope from the Holocaust" as the book cover depicts, inspires one to look for that glimmer of light in the darkest of situations.

Described as the "ultimate book of hope" according to the Buzzfeed Community, the book recounts the experiences of the author, Viktor Frankl's experience in surviving the concentration camps during the Holocaust. I can honestly say it was a bit tough to read especially learning about the atrocities and difficulties that people faced in those harsh times, but I pushed through because of the nuggets of wisdoms, insights and lessons one can learn as a result of how to overcome the toughest and hardest of times.

So if you haven't yet, I would encourage you to get your hands on a copy, especially if you are questioning your bigger purpose and place in the world and in this life. A certain level of perspective is gained when one is faced with death and the reality of life's hardships. If it's too much for you, here are some of my favourite quotes and insight that will hopefully leave you a bit more enlightened and coped to overcome whatever challenges you face in your reality right now...

Quotes from Viktor Frankl from "Man's Search for Meaning":

"When we are no longer able to change a situation.... we are challenged to change OURSELVES."

"What matters is to make the best of any situation."

"What is to give light must endure burning."

"What YOU have experienced, no power on earth can take from you."

In the book's prologue, Frankl quotes famous German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche "He who has a WHY to live for can endure almost any HOW." Another reminder for us that nothing is impossible to overcome, especially when we know our WHY and who we are in life... Remember, one thing, one moment, one step at a time.

Till tomorrow then.

Much love always, Poonam
